Understand my "plastic art" is about the use of the recycled everyday beauty that surrounds us and found only within re-purposed plastic man made materials.
This method allows me to explore the microcosms that appear around the emotional frayed edges of plastic folds, torn fibers and tattered layers that come to life through my use of color, angles and shapes.
I have been captivated by reflections, shadows and how light energy curves and scatters, whether light bends, flips or turns, I have found that our reflections hold our deep inner beauties and imperfections.
Lights, filters, shinny materials and chambers are all contained and layered to produce these fantastic artworks! Through process and methods these images are then transferred on to acrylic and linen to give a natural glow.
I enjoy producing offbeat, cutouts of the world around us as land and seascapes from a singular different perspective, a totally new and brave “Plastic World of Art”. The interplay in layering materials, casting reflections and forcing angles makes for a very powerful engagement to capture all the drama and beauty as it unfolds.--Berges Alvarez

“In Closely Listen, Bergés Alvarez proves that he has mastered the poet’s tools of trade. His is a unique voice, he has a lightness of touch, and a certain a Taoist wisdom. When reading his poetry, it is best to sit back and taste the words, say them aloud, and let a poem such as Most Moons resonate; the poem makes the sound of a spoon on a crystal glass, spare and elegant. The title poem urges you to “stir your words, close my eyes, and hold my breath”. Do this, and in the resulting quiet, the reader will hear a rare song, the voice of Bergés Alvarez in Closely Listen. “

My current project Radiographic Portraits explores the interchange of digital media and use of recycled man-made reflective materials to create these fascinating portraits and expressive colorful panoramas. This photographic work pulls from early beginnings, bringing forth hopes, fears and dreams that make their way into a narrative story of images. The work engages high contrast deep black and white photographs or photo montages as a means of storytelling and self-expression as to capture the quiet introspection behind our experience and personal evolution.
I believe that most of our stories, either true or imagined hold influences that can transform our lives. Through radiographs my most recent work is symbolic of the mutual mysteries that connect us all together. This social work reflects a natural world that allows present-day to show in subtle ways and in doing so constructs communication between the digital medical plastic recycled modernism we've created and the delicate yet silently present, natural consciousness that surrounds us.

![]() "Thought" 12x12 inches acrylic on canvas 2011 Exhibited in the Art Showcase This beautifully mysterious, dreamy state is well composed in this acrylic on canvas by Bergés Alvarez. Captured in the dark night sky is a small moment in time in "Thought" where all else including reality fades away, allowing only the soul and mind to become one. Peaceful, mysterious and deep are the thoughts and images course through us in every moment of our lives. |
![]() "now know" 12x14 inches acrylic on canvas 2013 ![]() "Bloodroot" 12x14 inches acrylic on canvas 2010 Captured in the Dark Night Sky Drawn to it, one must catch sight of dawn’s young soft glow. A slight streak of restful radiance, against the silent black night sky. Fresh, mysterious, gentle and warm, delicate and intricate. It calls out faintly shows its beauty and frailty. Calm colors, dark and light, fleeting and brief. A reluctant moon, nestled in its place, slowly passes, and still holds firmly, for attention against the fading dark sky. Let the tender dark night tumble, and turn over, once more. Let sleep remain folded, covered and untouched. Pulled, is the gentle sad passing night unwilling to surrender to the approaching new light. The cool darkness remains and drifts, exhausted and drained. It keeps the soft warm glow of day from breaking. Pressed and rubbed are the stars, slowly moved back out of sight. Dawn is draped and tenderly drawn to replace the dark layers of the night sky. Wanted are the sleepy soft dark thoughts that lay beside me, like the stars, they are willing to remain forever, captured in the dark night sky. Let twilight branch out, and fall back upon me, once more. Let its cool lasting trace, its sweet dark embrace Its residue linger, with me once again. poem by Bergés Alvarez - See more at: http://www.lipulse.com/trends/article/dreaming-of-the-dark-night-sky#sthash.kTgHtrpE.dpuf |
